At Makoto & Fortune, we're inspired by the Danish ethos of Hygge... and generous helpings of hope. Our founder, Gavriela, was moved to open her home to rescue lamps after seeing so many languishing dustily in thrift stores and charity shops - down on their luck, but with a fiery spark still inside somewhere, and she saw their potential to shine once more.
Add to this spirit of endeavour, her neurodivergence and love of Scandi fabrics and painting, and Makoto & Fortune was born.
After cleaning and electrical safety certification of our rescued lamps, we spend some time studying their basic characters. Most come in damaged, plain and unloved. But we quickly feel inspired to transform them into their best selves - they always give off messages about how they dream of looking and living... cared for in a forever home.
We only ever use top quality paints and prefer exquisite Scandinavian fabrics such as those by SPIRA and Elisabeth Dunker. Like us, SPIRA started with the desire to decorate with 'colour, joy and attitude'.
